I had a different post planned for today, but I felt like this needed to be said first. After talking about bee farm friends and being surrounded by so much love this week, I need to emphasize the fact, again, that skincare is about so much more than skin. When I wrote in this post that skincare is a form of self-care, I was not kidding. Until a few weeks ago, my Instagram bio read, "I just really enjoy taking good care of my face." And yes, that is a very true statement; however, I realized that I no longer wanted that to be the first thing people saw when visiting my Instagram--because it's about so much more than me taking good care of my face.
Taking baths with May Lindstrom has almost become a daily ritual for me. As in, nearly every day, I grab my Honey Mud and go sit in the tub. It is, quite literally, therapy. There are skincare routines, then there are skincare rituals. Last night (in the picture you see above), I decided to grab all of my May products (plus Vintner's Daughter) and place them alongside my bathtub. I lit candles, and I turned off my phone.
May is a bee farm friend of mine and has been with me every step of the way since life got a bit wild at the end of January. More than that, we share the same sense of joie de vivre about skincare and beauty, and she reminds me to breathe more often than I remind myself. She will quickly tell you that while yes, she is a brand, she is also a woman. I will never be able to adequately express my gratitude and love for her, from the intimacy and intricacy of her beautiful products, to the light that shines so effortlessly from her. When I wrote about my 2016 goal, I mentioned how these scars and challenges would be a daily reminder of healing. Thus far, that has been true--it's almost as if this has introduced me to a new level of self-care that I never knew possible (or one that I took the time for). Again, it's about so much more than just the physical aspect of skin. When you're able to fall in love with yourself (however that may be), create a ritual, and take that time to savor for yourself... that is joie de vivre, the keen enjoyment of living. We can't pour from an empty cup; thus, we have to find a way to feed ourselves. Self-care and nourishment is what skincare, specifically May, has helped me learn. I still remember my first experience with her products. It was the middle of the night, and I couldn't sleep... so naturally, I decided to go all in. Honey Mud, Clean Dirt, Problem Solver, Jasmine Garden, Youth Dew, and Blue Cocoon (which has also been magnificent for my scars). And yes, I slept amazingly afterwards. The connection between skincare and well-being is a very real one: Below are some of my favorite products, special ones, that help remind me to breathe, to slow down, and to enjoy:

I so agree with you about the connection here. Taking the time to focus on caring for yourself physically really does help mentally as well! Not to mention that I always feel good about myself when I have clear, healthy skin. Another beautiful, wise post! xx

I'm so happy you wrote this post...I think life sometimes becomes so crazy that we try to move through certain things quickly and, sadly, sometimes one of those things is our skin care! I always have to remind myself that skin care = skin health, so taking care of our skin has a direct impact to our well-being :) Thanks for sharing your journey...
